BRAND DESIGN

SCAVATORI

2024

Scavatori was a packaging design project for the brand GRAFA, known for its handcrafted gardening tools and minimalist design ethos. The task was to select a specific GRAFA product and design a packaging solution that reflected the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship and sustainability. I chose the Hori-Hori garden knife, a versatile tool that blends function and artistry, and set out to design packaging that celebrated its form while remaining practical, protective, and environmentally conscious.

KEY OBJECTIVE

The project aimed to create a packaging system that could elevate the Hori-Hori knife from a functional gardening tool to a premium lifestyle product. The objectives were to highlight the product’s craftsmanship, use recyclable materials, and ensure a clear connection to GRAFA’s identity through tactile and honest design. It was also important that the structure be efficient for production and storage, while still offering a visually engaging unboxing experience that communicated the knife’s quality and purpose.

THE DESIGN

The final packaging design featured a structural cardboard sleeve that both protected and displayed the Hori-Hori knife. The exposed window subtly revealed the blade, giving a preview of the craftsmanship without compromising safety. A neutral kraft palette, refined typography, and minimal ink usage aligned with GRAFA’s sustainable philosophy. The end result was a packaging concept that felt earthy yet premium, embodying durability, authenticity, and the timeless character of the Scavatori tool itself.
